In November last year, a 100 metre BarrierGuard Gate was installed in the centre reserve along the A27 Lewes Bypass in Sussex, UK.
The opening consists of a 30 metre Emergency Access Gate, which can be hinged open or completely removed, and 70 metres of our NEW BarrierGuard Wheeled System to provide a longer maintenance opening.
Every 3-4 months the railway bridge at this section of the A27 requires maintenance, with the traffic needing to be moved onto the opposite side of the road using a contraflow technique. To do this on a two lane carriageway, a large cross over was required which could also be easily removed without the need for heavy lifting or moving equipment – BarrierGuard Wheeled provided the ideal solution.
Each 6 metre section of BarrierGuard Wheeled is easily handled by two men, disconnected, removed and then repositioned and reconnected, all without the need for special lifting equipment.
In addition, the client decided to install a 30 metre Emergency Access Gate at the same location. Due to the modular flexibility of the BarrierGuard product range we were able to incorporate a 30 metre BarrierGuard Gate into the overall 100 metre run. This provided the client with both an emergency and maintenance crossing point.
BarrierGuard Gate is a preferred system for this particular client due to its ease of opening and high durability – demonstrating that the system can be opened AFTER a design impact.
The BarrierGuard product range has been tested and approved for use to both NCHRP 350 and EN1317.
